Will the R50 fit your room?
Sheet A-1 · Room fitStart from a room like yours
Garmin's numbers
- Put the R50 about 1.5 ft (0.5 m) to the side of the tee spot, facing the ball.
- Set it at about the same height as the hitting mat. You do not need to level it.
- Garmin gives no number for room depth, ceiling height, room width or distance to the net. It only asks for enough ceiling height and free space behind the net.
- One reviewer found the hitting area small, so you may need to move the unit between tee shots and mat shots.

What it measures
According to reviewers
- Spin rate
- Spin axis
What it works out
According to reviewers
- Carry distance
- Total distance
NOTE
Garmin says the R50 measures spin rate and spin axis directly. It tracks more than 15 values in all, such as ball speed, launch angle, club path and angle of attack. Garmin does not say which of these are measured. Garmin's manual says the ball flight settings change carry, so carry and total distance are worked out by software.
Software that works with the R50
Sheet D-2 · SoftwareThe simulator runs on your phone, tablet, PC or TV, not on the R50. Third-party simulators run without a Garmin membership, but they have their own cost.
| Software | Works with the R50 | Runs on | Cost | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Garmin Golf membership (Home Tee Hero) | Yes | The R50's own screen, with the Garmin Golf app on iPhone | $99.99 a year or $9.99 a month | Needed for virtual rounds on 43,000+ courses, course practice and the weekly tournament. |
| R50 driving range mode, no membership | Yes | The R50's own screen | Free | Garmin's manual lists only virtual rounds, course practice and the weekly tournament as needing the membership. |
| GSPro | Yes | Windows PC (10 or 11) only | $250 a year | GSPro lists the R50 as officially supported. The PC is not in the cost total. |
| Awesome Golf | Yes | Phone, tablet or PC | $159.99 a year or $14.99 a month in the US | 14-day free trial. Connects through the R50's own Wi-Fi hotspot, with no Garmin Golf app needed. The connect page says from $14.95 a month; the prices come from Awesome Golf's help pages. |
| E6 Golf / E6 Connect (TruGolf) | Yes | Windows PC | Paid. TruGolf does not list the price. | TruGolf names the R50 as compatible with E6 (2026). A Garmin forum post said E6 Connect support was removed for a time. |

Questions people ask
Sheet F-1 · QuestionsDo I need a subscription for the Garmin R50?
Only for some features. Garmin says virtual rounds, course practice and the weekly tournament need a Garmin Golf membership. It costs $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Third-party simulators have their own cost.
Sources: garmin.com, apps.apple.com
How much room does the Garmin R50 need?
Garmin gives no room size. The unit sits about 1.5 ft to the side of the ball, so it does not need space behind you like a radar unit. You still need room to swing and enough ceiling height.
Source: garmin.com
Can I use the Garmin R50 outdoors?
Yes. It runs up to 4 hours on its battery and has an IPX3 water rating. Garmin says low sun shining into the front of the unit can cause misreads.
Source: garmin.com
How accurate is the Garmin R50?
Garmin publishes no accuracy numbers. Plugged In Golf found ball data almost in line with a Foresight GCQuad. Club data was less reliable, mainly angle of attack.

What comes in the box with the Garmin R50?
A store listing names the launch monitor, a carrying case, an AC adapter and power cord, and 250 club stickers. Garmin's manual says the HDMI cable is not included.

What testers found
- Plugged In Golf, R50 against Foresight GCQuad, January 2, 2025
Ball data was almost in line with the GCQuad. Club data was hit and miss, with angle of attack the weakest value.
- Golfer Geeks, updated October 4, 2025
The tester trusted it more than the Garmin R10 and Voice Caddie SC4 Pro, but found rollout on short and mid irons doubtful.
