Put it on the ground 6 to 8 ft behind the tee spot. Indoors, Garmin says the tee spot should be at least 8 ft from the net. That adds up to about 14 to 16 ft from the R10 to the net.

Can you use the Garmin R10 without a subscription?
Yes. Driving range mode and your shot numbers in the Garmin Golf app are free. Third-party simulators also run without a Garmin membership, but they have their own cost. Virtual rounds in Home Tee Hero need the Garmin Golf membership.

Is the Garmin R10 worth it?
It suits golfers who want a light, portable radar unit for home and the range, with up to 10 hours of battery. Golf Insider UK found carry usually within about 5 yards with wedges, but face angle and club path off by 1.5 to 4 degrees against TrackMan. If you work on slices and hooks in detail, look at a camera unit.

My Garmin R10 isn't reading my shots. What can I do?
Check the set-up first. The R10 goes 6 to 8 ft behind the tee spot. The ball should sit in a 2 x 2 ft area that starts 6 ft from the unit, no more than 1 ft either side of the target line. Reviewers found it more reliable outdoors than in a tight room.

Is there a newer model than the R10?
We found no direct R10 replacement. The Garmin Approach R50 is a higher tier, camera-based unit with a 10-inch screen. Garmin staff say R10 support continues through Garmin Golf app updates.

Carry was usually within about 5 yards with wedges, with larger errors on long clubs. Face angle and club path were off by 1.5 to 4 degrees. The tester judged it too loose for low handicappers who work on slices and hooks.
